The One Whom My Soul Loves

Soft whispers at twilight
Entreat me into wakefulness
The voice of my Beloved
So peaceful and safe am I
I’ve lost touch with time
There’s only his sweet presence
Enfolding my bare and tender soul

My Lover whispers to me of worth
Of destiny, of life with him, forever
His kind words caress my lame and aching heart
I come open, his always, but now for the taking
And with a gracious smile, he opens himself
I poured out myself before him, so now
He pours his very heart into mine

In this way, he draws me to recommit
With everything I am, in love
He is Master to me, as I have put myself
At Love’s mercy
I am yours, my Beloved Friend
Hold me now and never let me go
This heart and life and self are yours

It is, as always, your love that draws me
To which I cannot help but say, “Yes.”

“Yes” to you my Love, my Lord, my Friend
“Yes” today, “Yes” forever, “Yes” in sorrow and in joy
“Yes” in sickness and in health, “Yes” in poverty and wealth
“Yes” in heartache and in fulfillment
“Yes” ’til the day I touch the flesh of your face
And you tell me, “Well done.”

I long for that day my Love.
And “Yes” into Eternity where I will live with you
And you with me
Come in deeper, Lord
And let the day begin.
