Declaration Against Shame

My heart is full of anticipation, but I can’t remember how to hope
The land cries out for justice
But who is listening?

The loudest voices make a contest of victimhood
To find beauty in oppression is commendable
To oppose it is condemnable
There is none who speaks out for us
Where is our advocate?

“Listen, you people, far and wide
Listen, you nations, and lift up your eyes

To all enslaved to the demon misogyny
To the men encumbered with false divinity
To the girls told they are the lesser sex
To the boys told to “just man-up”
To the women treated as objects

To those haunted by condemnation
To all immobilized by consternation
To the unsuccessful or despairing of life
To the disempowered protector
To the infertile house-wife

To the hoarse voices with a righteous cause
To stubborn opponents of unjust laws
To the unpopular freedom-fighter
To the queen awaiting vindication
To the “wrong” ones who couldn’t be righter

To the unheard and stripped of image,
Those bound by ignorance and privilege
To the ones who are bought and sold
To the alienated, abused and confused
To those who are hunted, both young and old

To you, the wounded and grieved
To you who are empty and bereaved
To you, the bitter and jaded
To you, the anxious and fearful
To you who are tired of waiting

Listen, you people, far and wide
Listen, you nations, and lift up your eyes
‘For your King is coming to you, riding on a donkey’s colt.'”

Hear the message of Love, your truest Advocate
This is not finding beauty in oppression
This is the shaking off of chains

My Lord, My Love exalts the humble
And casts down the proud
We find this when we meet Love’s gaze
This is the Love that empowers
And of Love’s Kingdom there will be no end.
