My purpose in writing goes far beyond the expression of feelings. While I am a firm believer in the healing powers of emotional composition, I also see writing as a way to deeply connect with people across diverse boundaries. As a biracial woman, I delight in bringing my world to others through my work. I often express pain and grief over the broken systems in our world, but as a lover of Christ I look to a hope beyond present circumstances.

So, we might have different views on just about anything (or everything), but my main goal is always to build social bridges where I can. I write fiction and poetry for the sake of the art itself but also to challenge comfortable mindsets, to provoke thought, and to influence culture. I mean for my work to instigate respectful discussion and to encourage my readers to reach across social boundaries in order to learn about the lives of people who may be worlds away from their own comfort zone.
